Easing Back

I had one of those weekends where everything seemed to go just right. It was such a nice weekend that I’m actually having a pretty hard time getting back into the swing of things today. I used to feel guilty about the occasional slow day on the couch, but now I think it’s integral to the creative lifestyle. Sometimes you just need to step back and take it all in – and process half-formed ideas. So, in no particular order, here are a few things on my mind today:

+ David and I are slowly transitioning over to a paleo diet. That noise you just heard was my dad shouting ‘FINALLY!’. It’s not really on purpose – I’ve been eating lower carb (aka less processed grains/foods), and I just hit a wall with my two-eggs-a-day habit. We started using coconut milk instead of cream, which is probably going to be less gross when we switch to iced cold brew coffee. David was persuaded to give it a try after hanging with my father this weekend, and I’m willing to sort of go along with it, if that’s how our eating habits continue to evolve. I don’t like the idea of officially restricting the foods we eat, but I figure, as long as we’re not really missing dairy or grain, why not try it? All I’ve really wanted to eat lately is strawberries and this cole slaw, so we’re off to a good start.

+ In a refreshing change of pace from the last couple of months, when I have felt both creatively blocked and fairly stressed out, I have a lot of new ideas kicking around. I’m pretty excited about all of them, which is leading to the (great) problem of what to work on first?

+ I’m also trying to pick up some new hobbies. Some of them are career related – I’m trying calligraphy again after a frustration-induced hiatus, I’m re-learning how to use my camera because I want to take better photos for my blog – but I’m also trying to do some things that don’t have any expectations or deadlines attached to them. So I’m going to make a quilt. Even if it takes years to finish, I’m just going to work on it when I feel like it, because everything creative I do in my life doesn’t need to hit some goal.

+ We’re planning a trip for the end of the summer that I am so, so excited about. The more it takes shape, the more I wish we could just get in the car and go, right now!

+ I had such a great time seeing most of my cousins this weekend. (Meaning I didn’t see all of my cousins, not that I didn’t enjoy hanging out with the ones I DID see). I feel lucky to have such a great extended family, and even luckier that we’ve had such a big year! I’ve seen everyone a lot more than normal, and it’s been awesome.
