February Check In

checking in

I’m baaack! Did you miss me? I’m so excited – I have a ton of cool posts planned, so hopefully you like them! Thanks for reading.

So, it appears that February is here.  I’ve been telling David that I think 2013 is going to be my year (or more specifically, I’ve been calling it the “year of Alison” – I am a nerd.) and for the first month, at least, that prediction has been right on target. I’ve been working really hard, but the best part about that is that I’ve felt like the ideas just won’t stop coming. I haven’t felt so creative, and inspired, in some time, and while I agree with Twyla that a large part of leading a creative life is showing up and working every day, it’s a lot easier to do that when you feel like some kind of switch has been turned on and you can’t STOP thinking up awesome things to do and make.

Like I mentioned before I’m revisiting my list of yearly goals for each month, and writing action steps that I think I should take in the current month that would get me closer to my goals. It’s been easier for me to stick with stuff that way, and it’s also interesting to see what works, what doesn’t work, and what isn’t even relevant any more.

Out of 16 steps, I completed 8. Some of those were things like going to the gym three times a week, doing something thoughtful once a week (turns out it’s really fun to try to be a better person!) taking a calligraphy class, and actually completing tactics to grow my business.

6 steps I didn’t complete as written, but it either turned out that it was something I was unrealistic to expect from myself (like getting in touch with 50 new people a week about working with them. I thought it would take me like 2 hours a week – more like 2 hours a day!), or something that I’m working on, but didn’t finish within a month’s time.

2 steps I just didn’t complete at all – and they’re going to move to next month because they’re still important!

Looking forward to February (I mean, I know it’s the 7th, whatever), I’m actually just excited to focus on work, and continue to try to grow my business. It’s going to be a great year!
