Friends-Giving

So, I probably say this about every holiday, but Thanksgiving is for real my favorite holiday. I just love everything about it. Thanksgiving really hits the nail on the head when it comes to food, (which… Let’s be honest. Eating is often the most exciting part of my day.) It’s always on Thursdays, which means you get a nice long weekend if you’re lucky, and it heralds the beginning of the holiday season. I am a freak, and often enjoy looking forward to stuff more than actually doing it, so for me Thanksgiving is like the perfect storm. I’m having an awesome time, and there’s so much more fun stuff to look forward to, but it’s still far enough off in the future that I’ll plenty of time to enjoy the process.

Of course, the other great thing about Thanksgiving is getting to see my family. It’s fun to be in a house full of people you love, and now that some of my cousins are having babies, it’s even more exciting to see everyone.

One of the things I’m thankful for this year is what a great group of friends I have. I’ve always wanted a big group of friends (watching Friends as a kid probably had a lot to do with that…) and it’s only been over the past year or so that things kind of gelled. This year I decided to host what is hopefully a yearly tradition: Friendsgiving.

Last Thursday (the one before Thanksgiving) some of our friends came over with their favorite holiday dishes, we provided the turkey and beverages, and we all had a relaxed dinner. It was so fun to see everyone, and (for me) to take a minute to appreciate relationships that I might otherwise take for granted.

I also made everyone write down what they were thankful for. I did this with my family a couple years ago, and it’s so fun to look back at what everyone was thinking about that particular year. After I got out the crayons, everyone also got pretty creative as well. David somehow evaded getting his photo taken, but his sheet was super cool, since he drew everything he was thankful for. If you want to do this with your family on Thursday, you can download the sheet that I designed for this year here.

(A quick note about this photo – we were posing for pictures and Caspian sat down and made this same face the entire time – nobody actually made him be in the picture. We also thought they looked like a soccer team, which is why they’re holding the soccer ball.)

I’m already excited for next year!
