Today is a big day in my family, because it’s my dad’s birthday! If there’s one thing my father loves, it’s celebrating birthdays. I’d say it’s right up there with Apple products (and Steve Jobs), super dark chocolate, singing at weird times, and his family.
My dad is pretty great. He’s taught us by example how important it is to have a passion for your work, whatever it may be, and work hard to achieve your dreams. He knew he wanted to be a doctor from a very young age, and although there were a few setbacks on the road to becoming one, he never stopped trying.
We share a lot of things, from brown eyes and curly hair to an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, to the tendency to find bad puns hilarious (I can’t believe it, but the older I get the funnier they are…sigh). But probably the most important thing that he’s taught me is that you should do the best you can always, whatever it is that you do. He’s taught this by example, and he’s one of the greatest people I know.
I love you Dad! Happy birthday!
