Mad Men Is Back!

I know, I know, I’m way behind, but I only realized last night that the full episodes are available to watch online! (At AMC’s website.) I will confess, it took me about a season to really get into Mad Men. I found it depressing and slow at first. I would fall asleep through every episode, and watching it with my parents became pretty uncomfortable after a while. But so many people loved it that I gave it a chance, and now it’s one of my favorite shows. I love how it’s kind of like Seinfeld, because nothing really happens, but we get to watch these relationships slowly grow and develop over time. It’s great how realistically they can be portrayed – issues will flare up, be only semi-resolved, and then lie dormant for months at a time, until something happens to flare them up again. Most of the characters on the show suck. I don’t think I’d want to be friends with any of them. But somehow they are also so easy to relate to, and I want to know what happens to them.

David and I have started a tradition of drinking old-fashioneds while we watch the show. It is a fun treat, and it helps us relax through some of the more um.. uncomfortable parts of the show (aka every scene Megan has been in this season…)

Just found your blog through 20sb! Loved your guest post. I adore Mad Men, even though I’ve never watched it when it’s actually on TV (we don’t have a television or cable). My boyfriend felt the exact same way you did about the beginning of the show: bored. The difference is that he stopped watching it while I kept going, and now he refuses to try it again, even though I know he would loooove it. Stubborn boy. Ah well, more Don Draper for me =] Great blog!

Thanks! Yeah… I basically had to wear David down until he admitted that he liked the show. Although it does make lusting after Don a little inconvenient. :)
