There is Olympic fever going on in the Hazmatron (which is David and I’s couple nickname/robot alter ego) household, and I am loving every second of it. It all started back in 2010, with the Winter Olympics. It was right after David and I started dating, and he lived in an awesome apartment with a guy who would turn out to be one of our good friends. I spent a lot of time over there, and when the Olympics started, the TV was on 24/7. Since it was so cold and gross out, we would just hole up on the couch and watch whatever event happened to be going that day. Even though I’m not into sports generally, I’ve always loved the Olympics, but this was the first time I’d done an all-the-Olympics-all-the-time marathon.
Fast forward to now. We live together, we can get NBC over an antenna, we are good to go. We got invited to an opening ceremonies viewing party, where we had to dress up as our favorite event or country. I stayed up late last night watching gymnastics. Women’s volleyball is on right now. I’m in heaven.
I think the best part about the Olympics is how inspiring it is. You get to watch the best of the best living out their dreams. I don’t know about you, but that inspires me to be better, period. Watching world-class athletes all day makes me want to work out more, obviously, but it also makes me want to be a better designer, to bring more intensity and passion to the things I do every day, and to be the best possible version of myself. I’ll never be an Olympian (although you can bet I’m kicking myself for ending my gymnastics career at the age of 8), but if I work hard and stay passionate, maybe I can do something just as awesome.
