I posted about this on Instagram a few weeks ago - I didn’t feel like the space next to my TV was looking very good. I liked all the pieces individually, but together it was a lot of brown. I was hesitant to add any more color, because I’ve been trying to keep this room more neutral, and use lots of pattern and texture.
Then I got a fig fiddle! I absolutely looove it, and am also terrified that I’m going to kill it. I think next to the TV is the best place for it to live. It gets tons of indirect light, lots of warmth, and no drafts. It also added a non neutral color to the corner, without being too bright. Problem solved!
But adding a fig fiddle also meant that I had to restyle the TV corner. Since I spend probably the most time looking at that (what can I say? I spend a lot of time on the couch), I had a lot of ideas for what to try.
I decided to play Emily Henderson and try out a bunch of different options. I decided against putting anything on the wall, because my hope is that my fig fiddle will grow big and tall, and add height to the room. (Dear Fig Fiddle, who I named Tree Boy: Please don’t die. Please.) In the meantime, I have that curly willow – although I’m still kind of on the fence about it. I’m also not totally in love with the silver lantern. I think it does the trick for now, since I was trying to just use stuff I had laying around, but eventually it would be cool to get something a little taller, and a little more interesting. Like a bust, or a tiny globe, or something. I don’t know! I’m not a stylist! Let’s see what I find at Goodwill!
I’m really happy with how this room is coming along. I still want to make new pillow covers, and my mom is making me a painting to go over the couch – but for now I think it looks really good. I’m hoping to spend some more time working on my office, because let me tell you, it is a real bummer to work out of what is essentially a glorified storage closet. I have a sweet job, I should have a sweet work space!
