A recent Thursday night tradition has been a craft/game night with some friends who David used to live with and their girlfriends. It’s kind of funny, because the guys are all totally left brained, computer science-y, engineer-y types (yes, those are technical terms) and the girls are all creative and artsy and addicted to Pinterest.
The boys play video games when we get together, and the girls usually try some sort of Pinterest craft project. It’s kind of become a joke that we fail at our craft projects most of the time, because Pinterest is a devil site that makes things look easy and adorable, and when you attempt it yourself you end up with a lumpy, misshapen piece of shit.
My friend Amber is part of these craft nights, and she is also a very talented photographer. She mentioned a while back that she had updated her website, and when I got around to checking it out, I saw her awesome dollar store project.
Basically, she went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of items, and then took awesome shots of them. I love what a strange collection of items it is – some are beautiful, and some are really, really weird, and I love how they are presented on such a clean background, and without comment. It’s such a contrast from the environment these objects came from.
All the dollar stores I’ve been to have been so chaotic that it can make all the oddities – like this little chicken guy above – seem less odd. These photos give you a chance to examine without interference. Visit her website here to see the whole collection.
